| What will we do in Year 7? We study British, European and World History from 1066-1603 and break this down into three units: how people ruled, how people lived and worked and how people travelled. | What will we learn? Beginning in 1066 with the Norman Conquest we consider why William won and how he went on to take control in Britain, and then consider who really had the power – the King, the Church or the people. The Tudor power issues for Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are also covered. We will learn about living and working conditions for people throughout the period and draw comparisons with China. Hopping over the seas again we learn about the Crusades and why so many Europeans traded and explored during the Early Modern Period. | What will we use? The course is supported by text books and an interactive disk – with various activities and games on it. In conjunction with this is the vast array of teacher produced resources such as Power Points, worksheets and role plays. |
| What will we do in Year 8? This course is also broken into the same three units. This time it begins in 1603 and ends in 1901. | What will we learn? Building on the same themes as year 7 students will begin to see how things changed over time. Kicking of with Civil War and the execution of the King, The French Revolution and ending with the Chartists and machine wreckers of the Industrial Revolution shows how politics and ruling changed throughout the time period. The living and working conditions also changed greatly, and this is covered including drawing comparisons with life in China – corsets vs. foot binding? Finally we consider which people moved and settled in Britain during this time and the development of slavery. | What will we use? Brand new in September 2009 are specific text books and interactive disks – these are also available on the VLE so no need to carry text books with you. There is also multimedia equipment alongside the teacher produced resources. |
| What will we do in Year 9? This course covers the modern history of Europe and the World. Again considering ruling from 1900 through to the 1980’s. Living conditions for people during the Wars will be covered as will the travel of people to settle in Britain after World War Two. As this links closely with the KS4 studies we begin some GCSE content in Year 9. | What will we learn? Understanding of the different political systems in Europe in the modern period and how some dictators such as Hitler and Stalin rose to power. The impact these political ideologies had after World War Two is considered through the Cold war and how technology has altered warfare. Considering the impact of the wars on ordinary people leads to depth studies on the Blitz and The Holocaust. Post World war Two immigration to Britain and its impact is also covered. An in-depth study considering why Word War One started and the events of the war leading to the peace process which leads us into the GCSE course. | What will we use? This course has been tailor made by us and as such there is a range of resources including interactive Whiteboard software which covers the topics under study. |
